Finalist, Seafood Champion Awards Leadership Category
Over a career spanning 45 years, Wally Stevens’ knowledge and leadership have guided hundreds of the U.S. seafood industry’s top executives.
Wally has held leadership positions in large, publicly traded corporations, startup salmon farming operations and mid-size family-owned companies like Slade Gorton in Boston. He has worked in virtually all aspects of wild and farmed seafood production. He has played a significant role in the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s expansion of its Best Aquaculture Practices certification program. He is also the founder of the National Fisheries Institute’s Future Leaders program, which continues to be a huge success, creating a vast network of interconnected industry professionals and lifelong friendships.
Since becoming executive director of the GAA, he has successfully distinguished the organization as both a competitive force, with its Best Aquaculture Practices certification, and as a pre-competitive convener via the annual GOAL conference, the Responsible Aquaculture Foundation, the Global Aquaculture Advocate and other initiatives.
Wally believes that responsible aquaculture is the key to sustainable food production and the solution to global protein production needs as we face a rapidly increasing global population in the coming decades.
